On Hire & Off Hire Survey

Whether you are the Charterer or the Owner of a vessel, it is important to have the vessel’s condition assessed at the start and close of a charter period.

An on/off hire survey is usually done in combination with a bunker quantity survey and is carried out when a vessel is delivered to the Charterer or re-delivered to its Owner. The survey can be carried out on behalf of Owners, Charterers or for mutual interest.

Our surveyors inspect the vessel’s certificates and all compartments and parts of the vessel to be used by the Charterer. This may comprise for example, the condition of holds, hatches, main deck and loading gear. If a survey concerns a vessel or a ferry, the inspection will also include the accommodation part(s) in use by the Charterer.

The survey report that you will receive can be of assistance to substantiate claims from Owners towards Charterers or to decline a claim towards the Charterer.

In addition, an ultrasonic test can be carried out in order to assess the water tightness of the hatch covers. This may be of interest in case of an on-hire survey carried out on behalf of Charterer. IDKU owns special (certified) ultrasonic equipment and several of our surveyors are certified operators.
